Koločep
Koločep is an island near Dubrovnik, with 163 people and the area of 2.44 km2 (1 mi2). The locals call it Kalamota. The island consists of two villages – Gornje Čelo and Donje Čelo, both making their living predominantly from tourism despite their long naval tradition (they were known for its shipbuilding and naval trade. Two sailors on the Santa Maria, one of Christopher Columbus’ ships, were from Koločep). There is one hotel and much private accommodation, and the island offers great opportunities for kayaking, snorkeling and diving. The island is twenty minutes from Dubrovnik by ferry, and only ten minutes by water taxi.
