The Island of Pag

Pag is an island in northern Dalmatia, connected to the mainland with the Pag Bridge in the southeast and the ferryline Prizna-Žigljen in the northwest. The world-famous party destination Zrće Beach is located near the town of Novalja, in the north of the island. Pag is also known for its Pag lace, inscribed in the UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, Pag cheese (a sort of sheep cheese with a unique flavor due to the sheep`s diet of aromatic herbs, and high amounts of salt carried to the island by the winds from the nearby mountain of Velebit), salt production (exploited since Roman times, it is and has always been among the most important resources of the island. The largest of the three Croatian saltworks is located there today) and harnessing the power of wind (the country`s first wind farm is located there).
