Southern Istria
Southern Istria stretches from Peroj on the west coast through Vodnjan and Marčana in the inland to Peruški on the eastern coast. Pula, the largest town of Istria, is located there, full of well-preserved Roman architecture (the Amphitheatre, the Arch of the Sergii, the Gate of Hercules, the Twin Gates). Vodnjan and Fažana offer an olive oil road and a wine road, respectively, while other delicacies found there are pršut (salty ham cured in the wind, a type of prosciutto) and various seafood of excellent quality. The Brijuni National Park is a beautiful archipelago of rich history and unique flora and fauna, located across Pula. There are many idyllic beaches on the southernmost tip of Istria, in places such as Medulin or Pješčana Uvala, as well as great opportunities for sports and recreation – scuba diving, windsurfing, cycling and many others. If you are into partying, the Outlook Festival takes place in Pula every September, attracting many young people, mostly students, and well-known performers of various genres, such as dub, reggae, hip-hop, grime, and techno.
