Northern Dalmatia

The northern part of Dalmatia is the area of countless islands and coastal tourist resorts. The largest city is Zadar, worldwide famous for its unique sight, the Sea Organ, the sour-cherry spirit called maraschino, preserved Roman architecture, as well as for the sunset which Alfred Hitchcock termed “the most beautiful in the world.” The historical town of Šibenik is also worth visiting for its St. James’ Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the monumental St. Michael’s Fortress. North Dalmatia is also world-famous for its party destinations and events – Zrće, The Garden Festival, Hacienda Vodice and many others, a must-see for anyone interested in nightlife. There are two national parks in the region – Kornati and Krka, while three others – the Plitvice Lakes, Northern Velebit and Paklenica are in the vicinity.
